lending library

(A lending library created by Teddy Geller-Goldberg as a capstone project for the Miami Waterkeeper Junior Ambassador Program)

Welcome to our little corner of the world (come visit the corner of 3rd &Meridian Streets in Miami Beach)! This lending library was created to foster a love for reading and a deeper connection to our local community. It operates on a "take a book, leave a book" basis. Whether you're looking for a book, puzzle, knickknack, dog toy, or information on how to protect our local environment, we hope you find something here that serves you well.

Below you will find links to some local organizations and initiatives that also foster a reuse ethos and work to protect the environment.

Miami Waterkeeper protects South Florida’s waters by advocating for resilient solutions grounded in science, rooted in nature, and driven by community (https://www.miamiwaterkeeper.org/).

Surfrider Foundation provides a fun and easy way to volunteer and engage with its mission to protect our ocean and beaches. Volunteers of all ages, community groups, tourists, clubs, and locals are welcome (https://miami.surfrider.org/volunteer).

Zero Waste Miami is a coalition spearheaded by the non-profit Debris Free Oceans that works to initiate circularity projects, distribute zero-waste resources, and develop a community- driven Zero Waste Strategic Plan for Miami-Dade County (https://debrisfreeoceans.org/zero-waste-miami/).

The Things Lab prioritizes reuse and creativity, believing that no “thing” is trash. This artist-led socially-engaged start-up nonprofit operates a reuse center and lending library, as well as hosts workshops that cultivate creativity, community, and sustainability (https://thethingslab.org/#).

Miami Beach – Rising Above is a city-led initiative that addresses the effects of climate change in myriad ways. It supports organizations and businesses that reduce their use of single-use plastics, as well as provides information on flood protection, recycling and waste reduction, private property adaptation, and water and energy conservation (https://www.mbrisingabove.com/climate-mitigation/plastic-free-miami-beach/).

Thank you for donating books, keeping the shelves tidy, and being part of this community. Together, we are building a more sustainable and connected neighborhood, one page at a time.

“To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it.” ― Robin Wall Kimmerer
